5 Artificial Intelligence Features Already Available on Your iPhone

With iOS 18, Apple has added several new and exciting AI features, but did you realise that your iPhone already has AI, and you're probably already using it !

With the release of Apple Intelligence and iOS 18, new AI tools will appear for Apple phone owners. But did you know your iPhone already has some useful AI features? If you're still using iOS 17 and yet to upgrade to iOS 18 you can still enjoy them.

Here are the AI features that were available before iOS 18:

  • Smart Portrait Mode: iPhone's "Smart Portrait" mode uses LiDAR and camera sensors to automatically create 3D depth and apply background blur. Starting with iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, the mode is automatic and works even in low light.
  • Cinematic Mode: Available from iPhone 14, this mode records videos with a shallow depth of field, adding soft focus for a cinematic effect.
  • Screen Reader Function: This feature lets the iPhone read screen text aloud, even with "VoiceOver" off, and reads what you type, character by character or word by word.
  • Live Photos: "Live Photos" captures 1.5 seconds before and after you take a picture. You can edit, choose a new key photo, and share the results.
  • Create Stickers from Photos: You can turn objects from your photos into stickers or animated stickers, which you can use in messages and other apps.

Here are some of the most notable new AI features that have been introduced in the iOS 18 update:

  • Apple Intelligence-Powered Writing Tools: These tools allow users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text across apps like Mail, Notes, and Pages, helping improve the quality of your writing.
  • More Natural Siri: Siri's AI capabilities have been expanded with improved language understanding, allowing Siri to handle interruptions and maintain the context of conversations. Additionally, users can switch seamlessly between typing and voice commands.
  • Enhanced Camera Modes: AI-driven updates, like the automatic "Smart Portrait" mode and "Cinematic Effect" mode for video, provide better depth-of-field control, even in low light.
  • Private Cloud Compute: This feature enhances privacy while extending AI functionality by processing certain data through secure cloud connections.
