Dvd+rw help

Hello,
my friend just gave me a dvd+rw player, when i connected the cable and booted up my pc it wasint there, i checked the devise manager, my computer, even my bios, but stile nothen, what else can i do!!!!!

check the data cable,

does it open and close?

the jumper is set to what?

please give more information
