I have same problems - different printer though. I have PC with Vista now. My old epson stylus color 900 is acting flaky at times.
My fix is
1. Power off printer and disconnect printer data cable.
2. Delete the epson printer from my printers in windows control panel.
3. Shut down pc, reconnect printer data cable and reboot pc and logon windows.
4. Power on printer and wait to see if windows recognizes and self-installs printer.
5. If windows re-installed printer then do step 6. Else, manually go into control panel and add the printer.
6. Print a windows test page. If that doesn't work, read printer instructions on buttons to select to cause printer to make its own test page printout. If that doesn't work holler back here and someone else might be able to fixya.
