XP TO VISTA

Hello,
I have a windows XP Installed on my computer at the moment Home Edition
A friend of mine has given me a vista premium disc to install, can anyone tell me is it that easy, just to pop in the disc and download.
Do I have to uninstall all my programs or what any Help would be great.

What i did was got service pack 2 & 3 off the net then put the vista disk in and it took about half hour to install. It simple
