E stands for edge and G stands for GPRS, when you are getting E signal it means that your network is providing fast and stable frequency signal. When you get a G it means that your network thrown a medium stable frequency signal. Either of the two you can use in connecting to the internet. the only drawback of a g signal is, you can connect to internet with slow connection.
