you can use the crossover to connect two pcs.
after connecting it assign
In PC1==> ip address as 192.168.1.11 subnet mask 255.255.255.0(subnet will be automatically assigned)
In PC2==> ip address as 192.168.1.12 subnet mask 255.255.255.0(subnet will be automatically assigned)
then restart both PC's
Note: Disable firewall and workgroup must be same for both PC's
after connecting it assign

You can also take a look on this connecting 2 computers by using crossover cable article, hope able to help you. It's pretty simple task, sure you could do it.
