This may be a hardware failure
Go to RUN and type
ncpa.cpl and click ok
DO you find wireless icon?
What's your laptop model number? OS? 32 bit or 64 bit?
We can try to install drivers and see if that fixes the issue

Did you install your wireless drivers?
HP wireless assitant software?
Can you see the wireless icon?
Make sure that you have your wireless switch turned on

32bit.
I never see any wireless icon :((
