I thought you just install Kies on the PC and connect a cable to the phone.

Yes, you can connect via USB Port but this always left me with a msg "Connect Device" That's why I decided to give Kies Air a try.
Kies Air allows you to go through WI-FI on my router eliminating the need for the USB connection.
