Ok, so do you mean, PC to PC connection?
The easiest way is to get a USB and connect the two together. The PC should realize that you have made a USB connection and start unpacking software for a USB networking bridge.
If you must use a LAN card with no hub or switch, then you will need a Cross-over cable.
The single card thing is throwing me off, let me know more details if I am not in the right "neck of the woods".
