My movies won't play right anymore

Hello, I could always watch movies on my computer but recently when I try to watch something it will start fine and start to pause for short periods and the picture will get all distorted. Can anyone tell me why this is happening all of a sudden, I can watch videos online from youtube or anything fine it's only the ones that are strored on my computer that I can't watch
