My wife and I returned home from a week visiting family. When I tried to turn my computer (a compaq presario purchased in '06) all that happened was that the fan ran at a high speed and a beep tone sounded every second. -- beep ---quiet for a second --- beep etc. I took out the plug put it back in and tried again. Same thing happened. I have since removed the cover vacuumed out all dust, disconnected mouse, keyboard, monitor and tried again. beep --- quiet -- beep. I get nothing on the monitor, no blue screen, nothing but a fast fan and beep. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this?
Thanks,
Ed

A single beep is often caused by a memory card failure. If you have more than one memory card I suggest you try removing one and try to boot again.
Good Luck
