HD Problem

Hello,
I have a hard disk that won't boot. (Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA 300GB)
I'm thinking I can install this hard disk on my second computer, as the slave drive and recover or copy my data off of it.
Having trouble finding it on my second computer, instruction are unclear about Master/slave config.
#1 Will my idea work and if so any help on the config?

I'm not aware of Master / Slave options using SATA, they just assigned to port they plugged into by number 0 upwards, lowest number usually being the primary.
