Updating Android 4.4.2 to Android 5 or higher?

Is there a way to update the Android version on my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (SMT231) ? It runs on 4.4.2  Android and I would like to update to Android 5 or higher. I need this so that I can continue to use my whatsapp account on this device as whatsapp is soon going to stop working for anything older than Android 5. 

Any help appreciated. Thanks
