Hello,
When I try to open a program on my windows xp it brings up a window that says "open with". Then it has a list of programs to choose from. When I try to open Internet explorer and select open with internet explorer it just closes the window and doesn't do anything.
Just before this happened I had a malware that was xp security center so I found a website that gave me a code that I could put in a product code that made it think that I bought the software. After I put it in I then tried to download malwarebytes and it downloaded norton instead and I ran a scan with it then restarted my computer. That's when all this happened.
Please help very annoying

Hello Bionik and Steve,

In this case with total security, I don't think that Norton has a solution. It rarely does!

Go to this site:

http://www.dougknox.com/

Download and run the XP, exe files association fix. It may fix the open with problem but not the virus.

Good luck

Greetings,,

Please read this:

The virus in question has modified registry keys which prevents opening programmes. Now, several viruses do that and you may not have all the same virus.

For once in my lifetime, Symantec has created a useful tool. Mind you, Symantec in line with its principal, created a tool which will not remove the virus but at least resolve the open with problem.

I could give you directives to modify registry entries but that would require time and in some cases be risky.

So after running the tool, all of you must download, install, update and run Malwarebyte.

So here are the steps:

1. Download, unzip and run Godzilla Fix:

https://community.broadcom.com/home

2. Download, install, update Malwarebyte and run a FULL (I insist FULL scan)

https://ccm.net/downloads/security-and-maintenance/4621-malwarebytes-anti-malware/

You may be required to reboot during the process.

3. After the scan delete the items found.

Now if none of you comeback to give me some feedback, my spirit will haunt you for eternity and I will cast a spell on your system. I'am serious.

Best regards
