65,000 Ikea Mugs Stolen from Tesla Factory
In one of Tesla's Gigafactories, a large-scale theft has occurred, but it's not what you might expect.
There have been reports of a substantial theft from Tesla's Gigafactory in Berlin. Gigafactories are specialized facilities that produce electrical vehicle components on a large scale. The Berlin Gigafactory has been responsible for the production of the Tesla Model Y since March 2022, and has an annual capacity of 375,000 vehicles.
One would expect that any notable theft from this Gigafactory would be related to the Tesla cars or equipment. In recent reports, it is something much smaller that has been the target of thieves.
According to the factory manager, around 65,000 Ikea coffee mugs have been stolen from Tesla's Gigafactory. The total value of which can be estimated at around 130,000 dollars, if each mug costs around 2 dollars (although it is probable that they are purchased in bulk for considerably less).
The manager believes that the culprits are the employees, who statistically have taken five mugs each. In reaction to these supposed thefts, management have now locked away all cutlery.
There's a lot happening at Tesla's factory in Grünheide, outside Berlin. Recently, they received approval to expand their factory, while simultaneously announcing layoffs in Germany. Now, the factory has been shaken by a major mug theft, with 65,000 coffee mugs stolen.
Factory manager Andre Thierig stated that the factory's 12,000 employees are the thieves. "65,000! Statistically, each of you already has five Ikea coffee mugs at home. I am really tired of approving orders to buy more coffee mugs," complained Andre Thierig, Tesla's factory manager in Grünheide, according to Handelsblatt.
After the manager expressed his dissatisfaction with the employees, responses were mixed. According to Handelsblatt, some laughed while others were annoyed. Tesla has not commented on the incident. However, the factory management has already taken action. The cutlery that was previously available in the factory's lunchrooms has now been locked away indefinitely. Workers will probably now have to bring one of their five Ikea mugs in from home !
