This is What Olympic Athletes Received Upon Their Arrival in Paris
Athletes arriving at the Olympic Village receive welcome packages. Inside, you'll find items such as cosmetic bags, drinks, mobile phones and this invaluable form of protection.
The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics will take place on Friday, July 26. As a result, more and more athletes are arriving in the French capital. Upon checking into the Olympic Village, they are greeted with welcome gifts.
Among the items in the package are water bottles, cosmetic products, and even a brand new Samsung smartphone complete with SIM card and mobile data. Australian tennis player Daria Saville posted a video on social media showing that there were also several packs of condoms on her bed.
The American news portal NBC reports that the organizers have distributed approximately 300,000 condoms to the Paris Olympic Village. This is double the amount used during the last Olympic Games in Tokyo.
It should be noted that the event in Japan took place during the coronavirus pandemic, and all intimacy was prohibited at that time. They even installed cardboard beds that couldn't support the weight of two people, a measure to deter athletes that surprised the rest of the world. Despite the restrictions, not all athletes followed the imposed guidelines.
Olympic organizers have been providing condoms to athletes since the Seoul Olympics in 1988. The record number of condoms distributed occurred in Rio in 2016: 450,000 units.
In addition, the beds installed in the Paris Olympic Village are designed to prevent athletes from having sex on them, as was the case at the previous event in Japan. They are made of cardboard and are supposed to be sensitive to all types of "impacts." On the other hand, this has a practical purpose: these disposable beds are economical, easy to transport, assemble, and remove at the end of the event. However, there have already been many videos shared by athletes jumping on their beds, proving that these cardboard beds seem to be quite sturdy.
The 2024 Olympics are a highly anticipated event, especially since the host city is also the most visited city in the world. In total, approximately 14,000 athletes and activists will be staying at the Paris Olympic Village.
