Why Is Tinder Filled With Profiles That Only Have Landscape Photos?

Ever find yourself endlessly swiping through Tinder, only to be greeted by mountains, beaches, or forests instead of actual people? It's happening more and more with fewer "real" profiles... so what's going on.

Some Tinder users are swapping out selfies for nature shots, whether it's stunning landscapes, serene seas, or towering peaks. Are they trying to showcase their love for the outdoors, hiking, and travel? Maybe. But there's another reason too: privacy. A growing number of people want to remain anonymous while still catching someone's eye.

However, not everyone is impressed. Some users are starting to ask the obvious question: How is this supposed to work? One Reddit user didn't hold back, saying, "Sure, you want to keep things discreet, but using landscape photos feels lazy and, honestly, a bit pretentious. There are plenty of ways to protect your privacy without hiding completely."

Another user added a bit of humor: "Great, so you're a talking tree that speaks English, French and German. Cool, I'll ask you anything I want, thanks!" Others were more blunt: "My rule is simple: no face photos, no chance."

Of course, the choice to show personal photos on a dating app is a matter of personal preference. But lately, Tinder has been flooded with profiles showcasing natural scenery, leading many to wonder if there's a real person behind them at all, and a more skeptical mind would be forgiven for thinking it is some sort of scam

All signs point to these profiles being some kind of "spam" rather than actual people. One curious Tinder user took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask what these profiles are all about. Where are these landscape images coming from? What's the purpose of these accounts? So far, no one seems to have the answer.

If this were a scam attempt, it doesn't make much sense. A more effective tactic would be to catfish with attractive photos. This leads us to believe that profiles with landscape images are simply from people who want to keep a low profile, avoid oversharing, or even avoid sharing anything personal at all. But that's a tough strategy on an online dating platform like Tinder, where the whole point is to make personal connections with other users.
