If I use IDM to download a video or video clip on a certain website, can the latter detect that I am downloading a video? I have a paid account on such website. But it is prohibited to download videos. Please help! Thank you.

Yes, the server side know everything you are doing (if they have configured it!)

Ok, here is the thing, the web site you are connecting to, can query what kind of CLIENT is connecting. It knows if it is a browser asking for something, or if it is a clone of a browser, who is performing as a browser. They can see the "proxy" browser, and deny it, as it is not a streaming consumption, but an offline download!

So, yes, the website know.

IDM IS HOOKING INTO OTHER STUFF on the PC, not the server! So you should be more concerned with IDM, then the server!

No, there is no way around it. If you are breaking a copyright law, you are breaking the copyright law regardless if the source know you are doing it!
