Can you please specify what app is blocking the recovery process? And what's the phone model?

Since it is a Samsung. I would recommend logging into his google play account from a computer. From there you will be able to navigate to his apps that he has installed and you can uninstall the app. After that you should be able to backup the rest of the data just fine.

Try your google account. At least you can buy a new smartphone, and set up your old google account on it, synchronizing all the data. It may work)
