Hello,
I know that a lot post were create on this subject but heretofore I did not have answer! For 2 weeks now, WLM (windows Live Messenger) does not start.I explain: I throw application, 1 second of egg timer, and anything more. I acquired ground in the administrator of stains, and I see that process " msnmsgr.exe " is active.I abolish process, I start again WLM and try. With a little of chance, program it execute at the end of the 10th try (and at the end of 15 min of wait before abolishing process). Therefore, to sum up, either program launches in the end of 15 minutes, or it doesn't launches! But unfortunately, when I have the chance which WLM starts (always at the end of 15min), it gives up 5minutes afterwards! To avoid the useless post, I am going to list you all that I have make to resolve my problem having pick all pages of forum concerning this subject:

Restart the PC...
Uninstalled WLM
Uninstalled Messenger Plus Live!
Cleaned the register with CCleaner
Restart the PC
Cleaning antivirus with AVGfree (nothing found)
Re-installed WLM...

After this, still nothing! By good conscience, I even checked the hut " if execute automatically with Windows ", but of course, NOTHING! The always similar, process is active but program does not start!

Uninstall Windows live essentials and its gives you the option to uninstall them all. Hopes this works for you.

Found a solution, don't know if this will work for everyone but it worked for me.

1-Kill the msnmsgr process

2-From the regedit search for MSNState (must be in Hkey_Current_USER / Software / Microsoft / MessengerService) change the value (probably 01 00 00 00) for 00 00 00 00

3-Restart msnmsgr and it's done... you now access your favorite instant messenger.

** WORKING FIX **

https://amatterofdegree.typepad.com/a_matter_of_degree/2007/03/vista_windows_l.html

got the fix from this website (XP\VISTAWINDOWS7)
but here is the summary anyway

worked first time for me, and no rebooting either

- Click start
- Type: cmd (but don't hit Enter)
- Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications
- Click Run As Administrator
- Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
- Press enter

Then just sign into WLM; you don't even have to reboot.

Didn't find the answer you are looking for?

Ask a question
For those that cant uninstal WLM 2009 the string is:

msiexec -x {BD1BBE79-BB25-460D-A2BD-D496A5E13786}

copy and paste in the 'run' dialog from start menu.

This is how I got rid of Windows Live messenger and got my old one back AND can sign in to it without the message saying that I need to install newer version now...............
First I went into System Restore and restored to a point two days before I installed the new messenger, which got rid of the new windows live messenger and gave me back my old one. Then I found I still could not sign in unless I install the new version.
I usually use Internet Explorer but my friend always uses MSN Explorer on this computer and I noticed at this point that he was able to sign in to his MSN Explorer, which automatically signed him in to the old messenger and there he was, the little green man in all his glory in the corner saying who had just signed in and how many emails there were. AHA! So I opened my friend’s messenger and signed out of my friend’s account and tried to sign into mine but the same old message came up and I was unable to sign in. So I signed myself into MSN Explorer which made the old messenger active for me. Then I just exited MSN Explorer and opened Internet Explorer and the old messenger remained signed in for me.
It does sound a bit of rigmarole but I’ve got used to it now and it’s far better than using that stupid new windows live messenger. So maybe if anyone has problems with this issue they can do a system restore and then install MSN Explorer (the free version) and go from there. It’s one way round it anyway.
(By the way my friend was unable to sign into MSN Explorer while the new windows live was installed but it was ok as soon as it was gone)

The 2009 WLM I downloaded did not install properly and I was having problem reinstalling or uninstalling it. The WLM does not show up in my add/remove program either.

What I did that might help some of u that have the same problem I had is to

1. Right click on the installer and choose uninstall, if u have deleted the installer, go download it again.
2. Download WLM 8.5 which is around 1.1mb and install that instead.

Try this link below, follow the instructions carefully. It works if you can't sign in to msn. I have used it a few times now because every now and then I can't sign in again. I know it's not a cure but at least it keeps you going for a few weeks again.

Press control + F on this page and search "Sh'kyra"

Read me previous comments, it fixed it for me...

If not, try asking the windows live team....

hi I deleted mine from programs n files after trying all this and it came up as the program being currently unavailable..however when I restored it from my recycle bin and then pinned it on the start menu from the program n files folder it was back working perfectly!

with mine, it seemed the msn button I was pressing was wrong, yet there wasnt a right one until I went through the steps the windows live team told me about (on page 1, search my username), then the "correct" one was from the start menu, windows live,, windows live messenger,

now, if I make a shortcut to that button on the desktop, the next time I reboot/put on standby/hibernate, the button doesnt work =/

THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE NEWEST VERSION!!

it still has bugs!!!!!!

To unistall Windows live messenger, go to add or remove programs, and it is called "Windows live essentials". or something similar to that.
