Defragementation

Hello,
I have just been unistalling some programs and doing disk cleanup to get a bit more space on my C drive. Managed to get memory up from 5.57gb to 7.46gb doing this. someone told me to run the defragging program to make computer run better. This took over an hour and my memory went down from 7.46gm to 4.46gb. I know defragging doesn't use up memory so what has caused this. Am desperate to find more space on my laptop.

hi,

this may due to some errors which might have occured during defragmentation.

try to defragment it again.

or use a partition tool to repartition the drive.

I am a bit of a layman where computers are concerned what is a partition tool and what do you do with it to repartition the drive (I won't loose anymore gb's doing this?). Sorry to be so thick
