Cant up grade I tunes

Hello,
I bought a new I pod and it requires upgrade of Itunes but when I try to install the program I get a message that says my quick time already has a newer version and that closes down my upgrade I tried to delete adn the retried the install btu to no avail. I need help getting rid of the oder versions
