Not able to browse but net is showing connect Closed

Hello,
i have windows xp SP3 installed in my laptop, when i connect the modem to my laptop, at status bar it shows the message as internet is connected but when i open the IE i m not able to browse. While i tried it on other laptop its working fine. please solve my problem.

Dear Sir,

You have to check the Internet Explorer Connection settings,

Just click on Tools, Open Internet Options

Click on the Connection Tab,

Then Click on LAN settings,

Tick ----> Automatically detect proxy settings

Then press OK to save

Then close Internet Explorer and Run again
