Hello,
my dell desktop is killing me.I have no sound at all.My speakers are brand new
so they are fine.I get no sound at all.Someone said I need a new sound card but
idk bout that.I just wanna fix this so I can get back to recording my music
and downloading music.I have a pentium 4/cpu 2.80 gh with 512 mgb.

what model desktop?
onboard sound or sound card?

all i know is its a pentium 4.Its a dell

if it's dell there will be a lable on the case with a dell asset tag. this will tell you what model it is.

here are the drivers for your computer

there's a catch, there are 11 drivers for audio. so you are going to need to try and identify your audio.
if you take a closer look at the case there may be a number called a service tag. this number may narrow down what is in your particular model.

also, have you checked in device manager for the sound card details?
is there a speaker icon in the task bar, bottom right?
if there is does it have a red diagonal line through it?
if the speaker icon is there, double click on it to check that it hasen't gotten mute set on.
