Hi,

Acer Aspire Laptop using windows XP

A couple of days ago my cursor and keyboard froze at welcome menu/password stage and again at the desktop stage on my laptop. I am guessing that my whole system actually froze, but without use of my keyboard or mouse it was hard to tell. I tried rebooting several times and eventually it seemed to work and the laptop worked again briefly. I use AVG 8.5 virus software and it was not picking up anything. After it happening a few more times I lost patience and decided that the easiest option would be to reformat the laptop using my recovery disk taking my laptop back to the day I took it out of the box.

I did this and it appeared to work fine, the cursor and keyboard worked fine during the re format in the setup stages.

Then once it had finished and it went to the Welcome to XP stage where I setup my laptop like it was brand new. The exact same thing has happened again. The keyboard and Cursor do not work, then in some instances they do after turning the laptop on and off.

Is this a vicious virus and can viruses still exsist if you reformat your laptop?

Please help as I am lost??

Hello Sir,

If you have another partitions yes the virus may be due to this problem!

All you will have to do is to format the entire hard drive and make a fresh Windows installation

This will then solve your problem

Thanks

Maybe it's a memory failure - maybe the memory module(s) are defective.

try https://www.memtest86.com/download.htm - make a bootcd from the iso-image
and test the memory...

if there is a failure:
(if you have two memory-modules installed) simply try to remove one of them and test again.

Maybe one memory module is on the downside of the notebook an one under the keyboard, just try or look

good luck!
