Convert date format

Hello:

I would like to know how to convert this date format 20091015 (for 2009-10-15) to 10/15/2009. A solution might be to insert a dash between the year-month and between the month-day, however I don't know how to do that. If that were possible, I would be able to format the cells to dd/mm/yyyy.
