From my experience of excel, i have never saw a formula doing this :s

You could use conditional formatting: highlight cell A1 Select format>conditional formatting>
use the drop down to select formula is and enter =(C1>0) then select the format option and patterns and red. Click OK all way through. When any data is entered in Cell C1 Cell A1 should turn the color you selected.
