Destop like new after Microsoft Update

Hello,
On a windows xp professional computer I ran a Microsoft Update. When restarting the computer the desktop looks like a new user. The documents and folders are not showing. There is a start menu and recycle bin. I can see the desktop folders and documents in the desktop folder under documents and settings. How do I get them to show on the desktop?

Hello Mary,

Sometimes I wonder they created XP Pro.

Please try this:

Click on the Start button and then click on the Run menu item. When the Run box opens, type %UserProfile%\desktop in the open field and then press Enter on your keyboard.
