Changing my ram

Hello,
im just trying to upgrade my ram. i have an existing 512mb ram and now im trying to put a 1gb ram next to it but when i plug it into the socket and start up the computer all i get is a series of beep.
can anyone help me please?

try removing the 512 memory stick. Some MBs will not work with mixed sizes or speeds of memory.
