Hi there,
You can format your hard drive as much as you want but make backup before doing so for data loss,hard disk partition is to divide your hard drive in parts so that you can save your files ,data to it and when formating your other partition and data will remain intact unless you format it,that is drive containing windows only needs to be formatted.

but if i had backup all the important files to a hard disk that i buy,can i straight away reformat?
