Network adaptor drivers ?

Hello,
my name is jp and i am working on a vostro desktop 220. for some reason i cant connect to the internet. i reset the ie to default settings. that did not work, i did an ipconfig in cmd. no info comes up. under diagnostics it states the machine does not have the network adapters installed.and or the network device drivers may not be installed. i tried running the original drivers utilities disk. it does not fix or add the drivers needed. i am lost please any suggestions or help will be much appreciated. thank you......frustrated.
