It's probably a bad motherboard or CPU. Unless you have a spare CPU or MB sitting around it's hard to diagnose at home. A repair shop should have a diagnostic board that can read the post codes to find the problem.
I have a similar problem and I am contemplating tearing apart a working computer to do the testing. I transferred the hard drives to a different computer and did a Vista Repair to get it happy with the new hardware.
