XP to Window7, LAN connection is limited

Hello,
Me and my friend connect laptop each other. And his laptop has window 7 and i have Xp. Our connection is cable LAN. But both laptops show limited or no connectivity. What do we do now. Please sent me a sloution. I very thank to you because of this website.

maybe connection is off or you need the correct IP
