If you put in a new hard drive then there is no boot manager on the drive (it's EMPTY). So am I missing something here?

Do you have a CD with Windows on it? Or are you using some other method to restore the PC?
The only thing i have is the system recovery disk...I'm not too computer smart so I'm not sure what all is necessary in gettin it up and runnin. I ended up taking it to a shop in town and he said that the system recovery disk should have worked so he is "formatting" the new hard drive first...if he cant figure it out then I can still try any ideas given. I am finally using my gi bill and starting school in 3 weeks so I am really trying to get it fixed

The repair shop should have an OEM version of Windows. Using that and the COA serial number label on the computer they should be able to re-install Windows on the new hard dusk. Laptops often need additional driver software that has to be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site.

Good Luck with the computer and school
Thx man...he's got me worried cause he was supposed to call me today but I guess he is still open for another 45 min.
