I just bought a dell Inspiron laptop with amd radeon hd 8730m 2 Gb/Intel HD graphics 4000 GPU's, and windows 7 64 bits.
my problem is that I can't run my games on high graphic performances. In fact, I used Fraps running worst graphic games I got and I get about 20 fps and even less.
Even my other 8 year old laptop runs them better.
Then I had to activate high perfomance changes and nothing changed, still the same fps.
http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3519/Test7.gif

As u can see in the picture, it actually seems to work, and my CCC works too, I don't get erros anywhere.
I've also searched through some similar threads a solution to my problem, but didn't find much results.
Do I actually have to reinstall my graphic drivers in order? Intel then AMD?
PS: my operating system was originally Ubuntu when I bought it so I installed Windows 7 and then drivers, but I still think it has nothing to do with my problem..
Help please, I am desesperate.

Hi Wrath94,

For optimized performance Dell recommends installing the drivers in a particular order on Inspiron Laptops. Please click here to find the correct order of driver's installation. When installing the Video Drivers please install Intel Graphics Drivers first and then AMD. If the issue still persists, please reply with the exact System Model Number of your Dell Inspiron Laptop.

I went to the place where the technician installed my drivers, he assumed that he installed them in the right order (the one you told me), He told me that it wouldn't be the cause of the problem :/. For my side, I don't have any experience with installing drivers and I don't want to make mistakes while trying...Don't you think it could be something else..

I have also been doing some other tests, I noticed that when running Battlefield Bad company 2 (A 2010 game supposed to work with 78 fps(and more) low graphic settings on my laptop), The FPS (frames per second) couldn't in anyway go higher than 60, even when I set options to lowest, it just stops at 60

So i've been thinking about installing a 2000 game (Empire earth) to check the FPS.. and guess what.. it actually runs with 50/60 and stops at 60..

Do you there could an underlying matter or setting that keeps my games stop at that perfomance? That would make sense in my opinion

If you insist about the drivers matter and that it's the only reason of my problem, then I think I will need assitance commonly or with teamviewer (If you don't mind)

What do you mean?
I think I mentionned Battlefield Bad company 2 and it's there:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (2010) low: 71 fps Compare med.: 58 fps Compare high: 42 fps Compare

See the fps I am supposed to get..
On my laptop I get: low: 55 fps med: 40 fps high: 20 fps or less

PS: I found that my intel hd graphics 4000 is the integrated graphic card (adapter)
and the amd is the discrete one. Even though I don't understand that very well, Could that be problem?

Hi Wrath94,

Please note that the website mentions:

"The performance depends on the used graphics memory, clock rate, processor, system settings, drivers, and operating systems. So the results don't have to be representative for all laptops with this GPU."

These tests were run on Dell Inspiron 17R-5721 while your laptop is Dell Inspiron 3721.

These numbers are benchmarks. The game testers might have modified several things such as overclocking feature.

Please reply if you have any further questions.

Thats possible but it stil doesn't make sense that I run those games with such low fps, I am sure that there is something going wrong, I have tested it on some other older and cheaper laptopsand I still get more fps.. Im so confused
Couldn't it be that one of the drivers o the graphic card is corrupted or something?
If I install an older driver of the GPU and test, could it give better results with the fps?

Hi Wrath94,

Let's try doing this. Download the drivers from here for AMD Radeon HD 8730M and from here download Intel HD 4000 drivers. Install these drivers and check if there is any difference.

Hi Wrath94,

I sorry for the delayed response. I have checked the link that you provided; it doesn't mention Intel HD 4000 so please use Intel Driver Update Utility. This utility will automatically detect the video drivers for your computer.

Hope this helps.

This is what it said after analizing,

Graphics Driver
Product Detected Intel® HD Graphics 4000

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

Hi Wrath94,

Please do not install the Intel Drivers as your Intel driver's version is current and up-to-date. Check if you are able to install AMD drivers. If you are not able to install AMD drivers also then continue using the drivers available on our support site. I had suggested downloading and trying the drivers from alternate source so that you could check if there is any difference otherwise the computer is functioning absolutely normal. Please note that frame rates suggested by benchmarking websites are not achievable under normal usage circumstances. You might need to rely on additional techniques such as overclocking the processors/GPU which is not recommended on a consumer laptop like Inspiron as this may push the CPU/GPU to maximum usage and may damage them due to insufficient cooling. For full gaming experience please switch to a gaming laptop.

Please revert for clarification.
