Well, as long as you are connected to the internet, it should should start up a software download. Try it in another USB port.

I tried it in both ports on laptop. My goal is not to use it from computer.

Ok so plug the ethernet into the Magicjack Ethernet port, not the phone port. a phone plug(RJ11) will go into either of the jacks, and ethernet will only fit in ethernet (RJ45) Now plug the other end of the ethernet cord into your ISP provided router....now plug the phone cord and there you are.....but you still have to register it by plugging it into your laptop and registering....
