My screen goes black once i remove the power cord.

Ive been having trouble with my Sony vaio laptop I have the power cord attached and the screen lights and everything is fine but once I want to take off the power cord the screen automatically goes black in two seconds. If anyone has advice or anything they cant tell me as to how to fix this, please send me a message it will be much appreciated.

I would guess the battery is dead. What does Windows report for the battery status when it is plugged-in?

No because my laptop Is powered on but the screen light doesn't come on after I disconnect the power cord.
