Burning Fails Closed

Question

I have been trying to burn a dvd  using Windows DVD Maker but it keeps failing. at first i thought it was just becuz I was trying to burn mp4 files and it wasn't compatible, so I converted the files to wmv also tried iso, but still is failing so, what do i do? I'm on a lenovo Laptop w win7 and drivers are updated

Have you tried reducing the burn speed?

what is the error?

Hey, thanks for responding. I started with the next to slowest speed available in the first place uh, 8x? but I will go ahead and try it at the very lowest speed next and see what happens

Are you able to burn other things like music or files using something other than Windows DVD maker?

No, all burning attempts fail. I just tried to burn an iso file and got error 0xC0AA0007 and am looking for more answers now. It seems that it might be an activex/ocx/ or dll problem? Does that sound right?

How old is the hardware?

it could well be that the writer isn't up to it anymore. 

are you using imgburn to burn an ISO?

yeah, that's what it was imgburn. it's a lenovo 4311? it's not mine but a friends. I have a new ish gateway that my ex broke the screen of and is keeping it hostage lol. so, i'm tryin to just get thru it

Is it just burning discs you're having issues with?
can you read discs?
try a dvd? 
is it definately a DVD writer and not just a CD writer?

does it say DVDRW or CDRW on the tray?

yes it reads discs, and plays dvd's and is definitely a writer. don't these burners run at different speeds? maybe this one just isn't fast enough? How do I find out the specifics of this one?

It doesnt matter.

it should burn regardless of the speed.

is this a desktop PC? 

i suspect this is a hardware problem.

you can purchase USB DVD RW for cheap these days.

If i may, make certain the target files are on a local drive and not networked, mapped, or on a USB external drive, as the buffer speeds will fail waiting for the bus to fill up again.

As I stated in my original question, it is a lenovo um, ideapad. 
The drive I'm trying to burn with is an   Optiarc_DVD_RW_AD-7585H_K822. Windows dvd maker failed to burn several times, different file formats, 
Yes it can read and play a dvd. when I tried to burn an Iso file with imgburn it failed as well. I just looked at the properties a little closer and there is no drive listed as the burning drive and no options for selecting one either

Also, the files that I'm trying to burn so that I can take and watch with friendon a dvd player, are downloaded to the hdd.
