Screen goes black after bios splash

I have a custom built desktop and lately after rstarting it it will go into a black screen after the bios splash, I can get into bios still and change the boot order but it won't read the disc to boot from, if I sit there and restart it 4 or 5 times it boots, what can I do to fix this??

It could be either a failing hard disk or motherboard. Some BIOS version's have a setting to delay the initial hard disk read so that the HD has time to initialize. You might see if that's an option.
