Hi Elizabeth,
Can you see some loading screens or the manufacturer's logo while loading, or the screen is completely black? I would try resetting BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for a few seconds. You can check the laptop's manual to locate the battery. If you have warranty, I strongly recommend you to contact the reseller before doing anything.
