Hello,
Last year I bought a desktop computer and when I brought it home I plugged in the Ethernet cable in my room and it give me the connecting( with the yellow triangle) and then goes back to not connected. This will flash on and off for different amount of time(time ranges from 5 to 20 minutes) after it does this it connects to the Internet and I don't have anymore problems until I cut the computer off. It connects to my laptop fine and last night I took my parents desktop and tried it on my Ethernet cable and it works fine. Then I took my desktop and plugged it into there Ethernet cable and it works fine.
P.S My dad had some cat 5 cable so we had to make me a Ethernet cable. Since I am on the second floor of my house and the router is downstairs I have to have roughly 80 feet (give or take). Like I said it works fine on any other Ethernet cable and any other computer works with my Ethernet cable? I would like to have a couple opinions because I don't want to have to make and run another cable and have to pull it through the attic and basement and through the walls. But I will if I have to. Thanks in advance.

Hi

If you have a powerful enough router with antennas, you don't need to run a cable, you just need a USB receptor which you will sync with the router.

Good luck

That is a good point I didn't really think about that haha. The reason I ran it was for my xbox and it does the same thing but I havn't really worried about. But thanks that's what I might end up doing. I bought a graphics card so I'm going to start gaming.

I don't know about Xbox haha.

Good luck

P.S. Running 80 feet of cable, now that is an architectural challenge especially if you must drill holes here and there and staple your wire ! Perhaps if you double the length you could run it into the plumbing.:-)

I found the solution I believe to my problem. On my network adapter I changed the speed to 10 Mbps instead if auto. It connected automatically. Not sure what happens when I restart but I will let you know. This is where I found my solution.

You might find it a little slow but it's worth the try.
