USB SERIAL PORT SETTING

Hello,I have a disc to read error codes from car ecu when i click the icon and go to diagnostic it says device not connected .The instructions tell me to change the usb serial port (com) setting in device manager.the problem is i cannot find this in ports (com & lpt) as the instructions tell me i should. Iam using windows xp and the lead to connect the car to the computer plugs in to the usb socket in the computer.

its not going to be on a normal COM or LPT port since you are using a USB-serial connection, I would look for that device under you usb devices in device manager. COM and LPT ports are ancient and most users dont even use them anymore, LPT is the old style printer port with all the pins.
