DVD player does not eject.

hello, I have a Sony VAIO laptop with core i5 processor. when I press the eject key present on the keyboard, the DVD drive does not open at all ! How am I supposed to insert a DVD then?
tried opening it through the mouse click also(i.e, by clicking on the eject option in the My Computer's DVD drive.). Please suggest as many options possible, will try each one.
