Try the V.Lookup function.

Now you have confused me Msk.
First you post that you have 2 sheets in 1 workbook and now you are saying that you have 2 excel files.
Can you let me know if you are using 1 or 2 workbook(s) and again give me an example of how your sheets look like or else it is impossible to create a function for you.

i tried with v look up
but getting the error
sample1.xls, sample2.xls
just i need to take the ref of sample2.xls in sample1.xls
i need to compare and paste a corresponding value in sample1.xls
please let me know the exaxt function which works without errors.
