This may be a hardware failure

Go to RUN and type

ncpa.cpl and click ok

DO you find wireless icon?

What's your laptop model number? OS? 32 bit or 64 bit?

We can try to install drivers and see if that fixes the issue

Download your network drivers from here

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3413040&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3379104&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2093#11395

Install the wireless driver and see if it works
