Slow copy of files

Hello, i have external wd elements 1tb i am trying to transfer my files to my laptop. the speed is 400kbp/s and sometimes it goes down to 0kbp/s after a few minutes it goes to 250kbp/s and then it goes back to 0kbp/s and always repeating.. i am transferring a data 23.8Gb i started this last night and still it was just 8 completed... i am using windows 8% i try to optimize and transfer to another usb port but it didn't work.. i am transferring txtdoc. picture, excel, few videos. how can i speed up this???

Hello,

copying of multiple files is always slower than copying 1 big file.

Are you using USB 2.0 or USB 3.0?

USB 3.0 is a lot faster.

Why not try compressing your data and then copying it to your destination drive and uncompressing?

that way you're only copying 1 file.

i try to compress but it takes a long time also i've been waiting 2 hours but it didnt start compressing.

is there a useful utility that i can use in copying files??

You could use a tool called synctoy
