Want to keep your WhatsApp chats private? Don't miss the new 'Secret Code' feature

WhatsApp is testing an additional feature which aims to give users more control over the current chat blocking feature. Find out what the upcoming password feature is and how it will work.

Often we share quite private and intimate information on WhatsApp and other applications, and we wonder if the privacy of our chats is well protected. Given the need to protect private information, WhatsApp is working on new security features. Earlier this year, the instant messaging app introduced a chat-locking feature, allowing users to protect certain conversations using fingerprints, facial recognition, or passwords. Locking your chats in secure folders will ensure your privacy should your phone fall into the wrong hands. Blocked conversations always appear in a separate section, accessible only through your phone's PIN or biometric authentication. Now WhatsApp is working on additional ways to open this section of the application.

WhatsApp is currently testing an additional feature called 'Secret Code', which aims to give users more control over the current chat-blocking feature. This new feature in development will allow you to set a personal password for your secure chat folder.

WhatsApp Secret Code feature for blocked chats

WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo recently spotted this feature in the Android beta version 2.23.21.8 of the app. As WABetaInfo suggests, WhatsApp is preparing to let users choose their own unique password to protect their locked chat folder.  It will be possible to use a word or emoji for easy access to the chats. The introduction of a secret code feature provides an additional level of protection for confidential conversations. Moreover, using a passcode will allow users to protect their chats even on other devices.

Enabling the passcode feature not only improves security but also makes it easier to find and open locked chats. With this feature, users can enter their secret code through the app's search bar to access locked chats. While this feature is currently in testing and not yet available to beta testers, it is expected to be available to all users in the coming days.

What else is new in WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is also working on introducing new formatting options in the upcoming new version of the Android app. These new features will give you more options for organizing and sharing information in your chats. As can be seen from tests conducted by WhatsApp, new formatting tools include the ability to organize text according to the skit principle, reply to a specific part of the message, and other functions.
