Meta introduces another major change to its messaging app, and the result is simply brilliant. Read on to find out more details.

WhatsApp is undoubtedly one of the most popular chat apps out there. It is used by hundreds of millions of people daily and has gained popularity mainly because developers are constantly adding new features and improving existing ones. A new feature that was exclusive to the iPhone is now coming to Android in the coming days.

Until now, text transcription of voice messages was only available on the iPhone. But WhatsApp has made this feature available for Android starting today through the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.15.5. iOS users received this feature a few months ago.

Voicemail transcription is a very useful feature, especially for those who cannot listen to audio due to health reasons or simply because the context is not right. For example, at work, in a noisy environment, or in public, this feature is priceless. Also, it simplifies the communication for both sides: the one who is in a hurry and wants to send a voice message, and the one who can not listen right now but still can get the important message.

Since Meta launched this feature relatively recently, it is very limited in terms of languages included in this version. Currently, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi are supported. According to some rumors, additional languages will be added over time, although it has not been specified which ones would come first. WhatsApp has taken a very positive step in ensuring that the transcription of voice messages is done locally on the user's device. Therefore, user data does not have to be sent to a remote server, where hackers could steal it. However, to use this feature, an additional data package will have to be downloaded to process voice messages, which can negatively impact users with limited mobile data.

To get this new feature, you will need to update your WhatsApp version by going to the Play Store if you use Android or the App Store for iPhone.
