How to Cool Your Home Without Air Conditioning

The summer heat is here, and keeping cool indoors is a top priority. Here are some simple tips to beat the heat.

When the temperature soars above 30 degrees Celsius, staying indoors without air conditioning can become unbearable. Fortunately, a few simple and effective methods can help you stay comfortable during the hottest days. Here's how to keep your home cool and make the heat more manageable.

Use Blinds

The heat can be more tolerable if you ensure that as little light as possible enters the room. Using external sun protection systems will help achieve this - blinds, roller blinds, awnings. On the balcony or terrace, you can use a beach umbrella. In the morning, when the temperature starts to rise, close the windows, draw the curtains, or lower the blinds. This advice is especially suitable for those whose windows face south.

Avoid Ovens and Stoves

On particularly hot days, try to use electric appliances only when absolutely necessary. They emit heat, raising the temperature around you. We recommend turning off all devices that are not currently in use (such as the TV or desktop computer). Additionally, it's better to avoid cooking too much in the heat. A stove and an oven significantly increase the temperature. It's best to use a multicooker.

Create Shade

Block sunlight from entering by using special roller blinds with a silver foil layer outside. If roller blinds aren't an option, use light curtains or double sided drapes, placing the light side outward.

Ventilate in the Evening

Air out your home when it cools down in the evening or at night. Open windows and balcony doors in multiple rooms and keep doors open to allow fresh air to flow through. Leave windows open all night if possible.

Humidify the Air

Dry air can make breathing difficult in extreme heat. If you don't have a humidifier, wet sheets or towels with cold water and hang them on radiators. Place containers of water near open windows or doors to let the sun evaporate the water, humidifying the air. Add a few drops of essential oil for a pleasant aroma.

Use a Fan

This is one of the most widely used devices to overcome the heat. If you place two bottles of chilled water next to a small portable fan, you will feel coolness almost as well as from an air conditioner.
