Apple AirPods 4: Two Versions, With or Without Active Noise Cancellation

Apple AirPods 4: Two Versions, With or Without Active Noise Cancellation

Apple has just refreshed its audio lineup with some notably updates, the highlight being the AirPods, which is now available in multiple versions.

After weeks of speculation, the September 9 Apple event confirmed a significant upgrade for the standard AirPods, now available with or without active noise cancellation (ANC), while minor improvements were made to the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

What's New with AirPods 4? For the first time, AirPods 4 come in two options. The first maintains Apple's classic open fit design, while the second introduces active noise cancellation (ANC), a rare feature for open-fit earbuds, as ANC usually requires a passive seal to function effectively. This move is aimed at users who prefer the less intrusive fit but still want noise reduction.

Both models use the H2 chip for optimized connectivity with Apple devices, include a button on the stem for controlling media and calls, and even support answering calls with a simple head movement. However, be careful, head gestures can accidentally trigger calls!

The ANC model could be ideal for those who dislike the snug fit of in ear buds such as the AirPods Pro 2 but still want noise cancellation. Apple has redesigned the shape to fit a broader range of ear types comfortably.

Pricing and Availability Both versions feature USB-C charging ports on the case and support Qi/Qi2/MagSafewireless charging. The AirPods 4 are available for pre-order now and will hit stores on September 20. The standard model is priced at $129, while the ANC version costs $179.

AirPods Pro 2 & AirPods Max

The AirPods Pro 2 didn't receive a full version upgrade but now come with software features focused on hearing health, including an option to analyze your hearing profile. We'll likely have to wait until next year for the AirPods Pro 3.

The AirPods Max also received minimal updates, such as new color options and a USB-C charging port to comply with European Union regulations. The price remains unchanged at $549.

This new range of updates offers more versatility and improvements for different user needs, from open fit users looking for ANC to high-end audio fans with the AirPods Max.
